Legends of Barri Gotico
By Charlotte Stace
Would you like to learn more about Barri Gòtic? Now you can with the Nueva Ruta walking tour organised by Pilar Estebaranz.
Barri Gòtic is one of Barcelona’s oldest neighbourhoods. Sitting in the mediaeval old town of the city close to the port, it has narrow, dimly-lit streets filled with trendy bars, clubs and restaurants. Once under Roman control, this neighbourhood has since maintained its historical roots. Although it’s undergone some gentrification, if you look close enough, you can still find relics from the past.
Nueva Ruta’s Legends of Barri Gòtic will take you on a walk around this neighbourhood and uncover some of the legends associated with it. You’ll start in Plaça de l'Angel and end at Fuente de Canaletes. Along the way, you’ll discover hidden monuments such as the Well of Sacrifices, the Executioner’s House, The Ghost of Canaletes, and learn about things such as the Diabolical Pact and the Inquisition in Barcelona.
