Asian Film Festival 2026
By Charlotte Stace

The Asian Film Festival Barcelona 2026 returns with more than 100 films from 25 countries, offering us a tour through contemporary Asian cinema. It brings independent, experimental and auteur films from Iran to New Zealand, alongside work from emerging film industries in Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Cambodia and beyond.
India takes centre stage this year, with Focus India presenting 12 recent features alongside a 12-film retrospective examining how the country has been portrayed on screen from the West. Opening film If on a Winter’s Night comes from Sanju Surendran, while other highlights include Rima Das’ Not a Hero, Naomi Kawase’s Yakushima’s Illusion, My Daughter’s Hair from Iran and Hong Kong drama We Are Nothing at All.
A selection of the city’s biggest cinema venues, such as La Filmoteca de Catalunya and Cinemas Girona, will be the hosts for the in-person film screenings, while FILMIN and Betevé will hold the online sessions.
