Mostra Internacional de Films de Dones de Barcelona remains one of the city’s most distinctive film festivals, with a programme built around feminist cinema, dissident perspectives and the ongoing work of recovering and rethinking film history through women’s filmmaking. It’s a project that helps expand and reorganise the many histories of cinema made by women.

This year’s edition is organised in two parts, with Vol. I running from May 21st to July 3rd and Vol. II still to be confirmed. May’s programme is structured around strands including Persistències fílmiques, a Retrospective, Family Sessions, Cinema fora de lloc, Special Sessions, Latin American women documentarians, Known and Recognised, and the twelfth edition of Manifestos fílmics feministes.

The festival is shaped by a feminist film culture, with educational activities, thought projects and side programmes woven throughout. For anyone interested in cinema that challenges the canon rather than just repeating it, this is for you.
