Bjork: Cornucopia
By Kit Macdonald

Described as "an electrifying pop concert, art installation, and opening ceremony rolled into one", 2019's Cornucopia is an unsurprisingly ambitious piece of work from an artist who has never been content to do things by halves. Directed by the Argentinian filmmaker Lucrecia Martel, the performance merges cutting-edge technology, stunning visuals and immersive sound design, and expands on themes from Björk’s 2017 album Utopia.
The show is staged inside a custom-built reverberation chamber, which enhances the acoustics and intimacy of Björk’s voice. A flute ensemble, harpist and choir accompany her alongside the celebrated musical artist Arca, who co-produces and provides live digital sound manipulations. A stunning work and further confirmation, as if it were needed, of Bjork's permanent place at the top table of the avant-garde.
