Choreoscope Dance Festival
By Charlotte Stace

The Choreoscope International Dance Film Festival seeks to connect the worlds of dance and film. It’s a place where bodies, cameras and choreography meet somewhere between screen and stage. Instead of dance simply being filmed, movement becomes the language of the film itself, making it much harder to pin down than a typical film plot.
This year’s edition focuses on decolonising the gaze, with a programme bringing us a focus on transgression, identity, diversity and communities that are reclaiming their stories through movement. Screenings include short films, feature-length dance films and special programmes that look at the body as a site of memory, resistance and cultural inheritance.
Some of this year’s highlights include Xerinola, Hungarian Wedding, Scottish Ballet: These Violent Delights, 10’ Across the Borders, and Invisible People. Spaces such as the Filmoteca de Catalunya, Candy Darling, Cinema Malda, and Filmin will host the film showings. See the full programme of events online.
