Christy
By Kit Macdonald

Here's a moving and funny debut feature from Brendan Canty, who cut his teeth making acclaimed music videos and shorts, preparing him to make a thoroughly assured and delightful job of his first full-length. A quietly powerful drama that muses on friendship, survival and the fragile process of starting again, Christy follows a teenage boy who is sent to live with his estranged older brother in Cork after being expelled from his foster home.
Christy arrives angry, defensive and unsure where he belongs. His brother is trying to keep his own life on track, juggling work, responsibility and the pressure of suddenly becoming a guardian. As the two navigate cramped flats, casual jobs and the rhythms of the city, their relationship slowly shifts from wary distance to something resembling family.
