Circle Mirror Transformation
By Charlotte Stace
Across July and August, the Blue Book Theatre Company brings us Circle Mirror Transformation, a play written by Pulitzer Prize Winner Annie Baker.
The play tells the tales of an eclectic mix of characters: a hippie husband, a flirty former actress, a pouty 16-year-old, and a divorced carpenter. Each signs up for acting instructor Marty’s six-week community centre acting class. At first, they begin playing some seemingly innocent theatre games, yet, eventually, personalities come out, small battles are fought and hearts are silently torn apart.
With this play, Baker explores the inner workings of actors and the medium of acting itself. She sheds light on the creative process that gives an actor the ability to tap into a wide range of emotions that feel so vividly real on stage. The New York Times called it an “absorbing, unblinking and sharply funny play”. Make sure you don’t miss it in Barcelona. Tickets cost 23 Euros.
