D’A Film Festival
By Mariana Hristova
This catwalk for auteur cinema brings films from international film festivals to the city for the seventh time, including a host of Spanish premieres.
Among the most talked-about titles are Olivier Assayas’ psychological thriller Personal Shopper, about a model assistant obsessed by the death of her brother; Mike Mills’ witty comedy on mother-son relationships, 20th Century Women; and the stunningly beautiful Lady Macbeth by acclaimed theater director William Oldroyd. Not to be missed are the harsh Bulgarian drama Godless by Ralitza Petrova (winner at Locarno), Russian coming-of-age story The Student by Kirill Serebrennikov and Japanese meditative drama Harmonium by Koji Fukada.
Several Spanish films, such as Pedro Aguilera’s erotic thriller Demonios tus ojos and the nostalgic family story La película de nuestra vida by Enrique Baró, will be shown, while the retrospective is dedicated to Amat Escalante, best known for his crime thriller Heli.
Screenings take place – in original version with Spanish, Catalan or English subtitles – at Aribau Club 1 & 2 (€7.50), CCCB (€7.50), Filmoteca de Catalunya (€4) and SGAE (free).
