Dreamers
By Charlotte Stace

l’Institut Francès screens Dreamers (2025), a tender, urgent drama about love, migration and the brutal uncertainty of the asylum system. Directed by Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor, the film follows Isio, a Nigerian migrant in the UK who is detained and sent to a deportation centre after living undocumented for two years.
Inside the centre, Isio tries to keep her head down and follow the rules, but her world opens up through her relationships with other women there, especially Farah, a roommate who challenges her faith in the system. As friendship turns into love, the film becomes both a romance and a story of survival.
Screening as part of Mostra FIRE!!’s official feature-film section, it arrives in Barcelona after appearing at festivals around the world. Emotional and political, it asks what freedom can mean when love is forced to exist under threat.
