Introduction to the End of an Argument | Resistance, Why?
By Kit Macdonald

A double-bill of thought-provoking pieces on Palestine here – first up is Introduction to the End of an Argument, a Palestine-USA-Canada co-production from 1990 directed by Elia Suleiman and Jayce Salloum. It's an experimental film that questions the way Western cinema and media have represented Arabs, and particularly Palestinians, through films, news reports and other media images.
Christian Ghazi's 1971 documentary Resistance, Why? looks into and explains the historical roots of the Palestinian resistance through Palestinian and Arab political and intellectual figures from the period in which it was made. The film traces the history of Palestine up to the creation of Israel in 1948 and presents the resistance as a response to colonisation and occupation. Both films will be shown during the sessions on November 6th and 17th, and the session on the 6th is followed by a presentation and discussion led by filmmaker Maher Abi Samra.
