Jewish-themed culture has been celebrated by the Barcelona Jewish Film Festival (Festival Cinema Jueu) since 1999. Jewish people settled in Barcelona during Roman times and have since played a huge role in the development of the city and its society.

The festival is dedicated to exploring Jewish identity, memory and culture through cinema. The programme combines documentaries, fiction and experimental works that spotlight issues of human rights, history and resistance against silence and impunity. By showcasing international and local voices, it aims to spark dialogue on pressing global conflicts while preserving and questioning collective memory.

Running across October, the city’s biggest cinema venues will screen a range of some of the most ground-breaking and thought-provoking films from Jewish filmmakers based around the world. Highlights include: When Lightning Flashes Over the Sea (2025), The Commandant's Shadow (2024), Diary 4 (1983), and Archaeology (1967).
