Little men
By Charlotte Stace

As part of the Americana film fest, Ira Sachs’ Little Men (2016) will be shown at La Filmoteca this coming week. A poignant drama exploring friendship and socioeconomic tensions in Brooklyn, the film has been praised by critics and fans alike.
The plot? It follows 13-year-old Jake Jardine, who moves into a new home above a dress shop run by Leonor Calvelli and her son, Tony. The boys form a close friendship, bonding over their artistic dreams (Jake as a painter, Tony as an aspiring actor). But their relationship is tested when their parents clash over a rent dispute.
Ultimately, the film offers a touching meditation on the innocence of childhood, family financial pressures and personal growth. A standout indie drama, it’s one not to be missed. Tickets available online now.
