Opportunities to catch No Country for Old Men at the cinema don't seem to come around too often, which is strange given the movie's sheer excellence and, in particular, the extraordinary, chilling performance put in by Javier Bardem as the remorseless hitman Anton Chigurh, whose dedicated to his job is only marginally more frightening than his bowl-cut hairdo.

Based on Cormac McCarthy’s novel, No Country for Old Men is a stark and suspense-laden neo-Western thriller set in 1980s Texas. Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) stumbles on a drug deal gone wrong and absconds with a suitcase of cash, setting off a thoroughly relentless chain of violence. Big themes (fate, chance, moral decline) conspire with the Coens' austere, spare directorial brilliance, glorious cinematography and score and another standout performance from Tommy Lee Jones as the ageing sheriff Ed Tom Bell to create a true classic of the form.
