Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker is a defining work of 20th-century cinema loosely inspired by the novel by the Soviet authors Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. It follows a guide known as the Stalker who leads two clients – Writer and Professor – into the mysterious Zone, a forbidden area rumoured to contain a room capable of granting a person’s deepest wish. What begins as a journey through a strange landscape gradually becomes an inquiry into belief, purpose and human longing.

Rather than relying on conventional sci-fi spectacle, Tarkovsky creates tension through atmosphere, long takes and hypnotic imagery. The Zone seems both beautiful and threatening, its rules are uncertain and its meaning is elusive. Spirituality, doubt and the limits of knowledge are the dominant themes in a film that's as demanding as it is rewarding.
