Street Heroines
By Kit Macdonald

Here's a wonderful 2021 documentary by Alexandra Henry that puts the much overlooked contributions of women to the global graffiti and street art movement firmly in the spotlight. Often seen as a largely male preserve, street art owes a great deal to figures such as Lady Pink, a pioneering New York graffiti writer who is one of the subjects of the doc along with contemporary muralists and activists from Latin America and beyond.
In its 71 minutes Street Heroines goes deep into this world as Henry weaves candid interviews and on-the-ground footage, capturing the powerful sense of solidarity among her subjects, highlighting the challenges they face and bringing to life the community that sustains them.
