Suncine 2025
By Charlotte Stace

SUNCINE is one of the world’s oldest environmental film festivals, established in 1993, and it’s become a staple of Barcelona’s cultural calendar. It’s organised by non-profit ACCIONS 3E and brings together environmental documentaries, animated shorts, fiction and non-fiction films that address ecological, climate, social and environmental issues.
This year’s line-up brings some of the most poignant films together from around the world over the past year. They include: Our New World (2025) which explores nature’s extraordinary ability to adapt, and asks how humanity can become not a destructive force, but an ally; Checkpoint Zoo (2024) which explores how a team of zookeepers and volunteers risk their lives to save animals amid the chaos of the Russian invasion of Ukraine; and Yanuni (2025) which follows the journey of Juma Xipaia, an indigenous leader from the Brazilian Amazon, who rose from a remote village to the global stage of climate justice.
