Suncine 2026
By Charlotte Stace

SUNCINE, the International Environmental Film Festival, brings some of the world's most thought-provoking environmental documentaries to Barcelona. Founded in 1993, it’s the world's oldest festival dedicated to environmental cinema, using film to explore everything from climate change and biodiversity to the relationship between people and the natural world. This year's theme, Leave Your Mark, asks us to consider the impact we have on the planet and what we can do to change it for future generations.
The 2026 programme features eight international documentaries competing for the prestigious Golden Sun award. Highlights include Nuisance Bear, Snow Leopard Sisters, Tasting the Forest, Land of Canaan and Trade Secret, taking audiences from the Arctic and Himalayas to Palestine and the Amazon.
The festival opens with El silenci de la Terra, a documentary investigating the murders of environmental activists in Latin America. Screenings take place at cinemas and cultural venues across Barcelona and beyond, with much of the programme also available online through CaixaForum+.
