The getaway

La Filmoteca screens Sam Peckinpah’s classic action thriller film, The Getaway (1972), starring Steve McQueen, Ali MacGraw, Ben Johnson, Sally Struthers, Al Lettieri and Slim Pickens.
The film follows Doc McCoy, a convicted bank robber who is released from prison on the condition that he pulls off a heist for a corrupt businessman. When the job goes wrong and double-crosses come their way, Doc and his wife Carol, go on the run. They’re pursued by both the law and ruthless criminals. As they race towards the Mexican border, their trust is tested...but will they survive?
While, unfortunately, the initial reaction to the film was negative, modern critics have been far more appreciative. With comparisons to Bonnie and Clyde, it’s a stereotypical “lovers on the run-style heist” film with action and thrill in equal measure. Now’s your chance to catch it on the silver screen once more.
