Michael Mann was on one hell of a roll in the early to mid nineties, with the epic, sweeping The Last of the Mohicans (1992) preceding Heat by three short years. The former, which will benefit greatly from viewing on Phenomena's glorious giant screen, stars Daniel Day-Lewis as Hawkeye, a white man adopted by the Mohican tribe, who becomes entangled in the conflict between British and French colonial forces during the during the French and Indian War in the middle of the 18th century.

Loosely adapted from James Fenimore Cooper’s 1826 novel and the 1936 film adaptation, Mann's film's greatest strengths are its lush cinematography, deeply evocative score and intense battle scenes. Day-Lewis is extraordinary as Hawkeye, of course, but so is Wes Studi as the Huron warrior Magua, who adds complexity and menace in spades.
