Respectful without veering into hagiography and inquisitive without being intrusive, Janis: Little Girl Blue offers an insightful glimpse into the life of a rock 'n' roll legend." A apt description of a fine piece of work that stands alongside the likes of Asif Kapadia's Amy, which came out in the same year and charts the life of another member of the tragic "27 Club", of which Janis Joplin was unfortunately an early member, alongside Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison.
Cat Power narrates the film in the first person and brings to life Joolin's brief, fierce life as a female singer-songwriter making her way in the still intensely masculine world of 1960s rock'n'roll.
