Wallay! African Film Festival returns for its 9th edition, celebrating the diversity and creativity of African cinema. Founded in 2018, the festival gives a platform to African filmmakers and stories that rarely make it onto mainstream cinema screens.

This year's programme takes audiences from the busy streets of Lagos to the landscapes of the Sahel, with films exploring identity, family, politics and everyday life. Highlights include Katanga: The Dance of the Scorpions by Dani Kouyaté, The Heart Is a Muscle by Imran Hamdulay, Liti Liti by Mamadou Khouma Gueye and When Nigeria Happens by Ema Edosio Deelen. There are also screenings of acclaimed films such as Wùlu, Banel & Adama and The Gravedigger's Wife.

Following its spring screenings at the Filmoteca de Catalunya, Wallay! continues this autumn with a selection of films available on Filmin, before wrapping up with a special screening of Nha Fala by Flora Gomes at the Institut Français in December.
