Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
By Charlotte Stace
While you might be familiar with the most recent Wonka film made last year, but La Filmoteca is taking us back to the very original with a special screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971). Directed by Mel Stuart, the film stars Gene Wilder as Wonka, and also features Jack Albertson, Peter Ostrum, Roy Kinnear and Aubrey Woods.
This was the first film version of Roald Dahl's beloved tale. It follows a young, poor boy and his grandfather as they get a once in a lifetime chance to go into the wacky and wonderful chocolate factory of Willy Wonka after finding a golden ticket in a chocolate bar. The film was only made because Mel Stuart’s young daughter at the time convinced him to bring this wonderful children’s story to life on screen. Since its release, it has earned cult status over the years and is still loved by many around the world today.
