Genera
By Michael Mueller

The gold jewelry at Genera is made by hand in the studio’s own workshop, where the team does everything from casting to polishing in 18-karat gold. Founder Sergi Genera had wanted to bring piercing and jewelry making together when he opened the studio in 2024, opposite the Llibertat market in Gràcia. He’d already been making jewelry under the name since 2018, taking it from his mother’s maiden name.
His first piercing was in 2006. After training in Barcelona with Diego Otamendi, Sergi worked at LTW Barcelona from 2012 to 2022, as well as taking guest spots in Mexico, Chile, Argentina and the US. In 2015 he became the first European to join Latinoamérica Body Piercing, followed in 2017 by membership of the Association of Professional Piercers, as its second Spanish member. He’s also vice president of the Comunidad Española de Perforadores, which he co-founded in 2022.
Sergi draws on ancient Iberian and modernista forms for designs he describes as “simple things, but well done.” His collections include Astrals, and some of the gold pieces carry diamonds.
In the small, calm shop, Sergi and fellow piercers Roca and Andrea take time over their explanations; piercing appointments are booked online. They offer a free follow-up visit to change the starter jewelry, and guest piercers also work here. You can come in just for the jewelry.
