Pop Air
By Charlotte Stace
The Balloon Museum holds the exhibition Pop Air - the first exhibition dedicated to inflatable art in Barcelona.
A number of artists have worked with inflatables over the years, but, until recently, this art form has often been neglected. Many artists over the years have chosen balloons as their medium of art, in which they’ve created artworks of varying shapes, sizes and colours. Free from the constraints of a canvas, this art form breaks down conventional boundaries and frees the artist to create something truly unique and awe-inspiring.
This exhibition is designed as a unique journey that takes attendees through a selection of wacky and wonderful types of works: large installations, inflatable sculptures, interactive and digital works, audiovisuals and information on the history of inflatable art. It features some of the most prominent artists within this movement: Eness, Plastique Fantastique, Karina Smigla-Bobinski, Cyril Lancelin, Hyperstudio, and Pepper’s Ghost, amongst many others.
