This summer, the CCCB brings Suburbialand: The American Dream Cinema, a series of outdoor screenings. At their core, these films represent all things relating to American suburbia: the idyllic landscape of single-family homes surrounded by lawns with their flowers and white fences. Yet, usually, this is not the image of innocence we’ve been led to believe; there’s usually something darker and more sinister lurking beneath the facade.

The lineup includes the following films: Hello Dankness (2022), Las verdes praderas (1979), Suburbia (1983), and The Myth of the American Sleepover (2010). Each of these explores some of the main themes underpinning the American Dream, its successes and failures, promises and betrayals.

This audiovisual series is an offshoot of the museum’s current exhibition, Suburbia. Building the American Dream, which is running until September 8th. Films are shown in the museum’s Pati de les Dones. Admission is free.
