Alejandro Esperanza Trio
By Charlotte Stace
As part of this year’s Voll Damm Jazz Festival, the Alejandro Esperanza Trio comes to perform live at Jamboree Jazz Club.
The pianist Alejandro Esperanza, who last year performed at the festival as part of a tribute to Tete Montoliu, now returns to lead his trio. Featuring Manel Fortià on double bass and Marcelo Woloski on drums, he will present his latest album, Olivos (2023). For him, this record symbolises the atmosphere of the Mediterranean and the concept of home. The work features six of his own compositions and two covers, where, in addition to jazz, are present influences ranging from composers such as Debussy and Brahms to the Beatles, and musicians such as Brad Mehldau and Avishai Cohen.
Olivos is his second album as a leader after releasing Compañeros de aventuras in 2018 alongside saxophonist Marino Garcimartín for the record label Fresh Sound New Talent.
