BACHcelona 2025
By Charlotte Stace

This year’s Bachcelona Festival celebrates the music of Johann Sebastian Bach with a focus on his connection with Georg Friedrich Händel. Before the festival begins, electric cello performances will light up the Diagonal Metro station to set the spirit of the festival in motion.
The Gaudint Bach programme offers performances in Gaudí landmarks: a baroque concert at La Pedrera, and a soprano-trumpet recital at Palau Güell. The opening concert at Palau de la Música pairs Bach’s The Choice of Hercules with scenes from Händel’s opera Hercules, both rooted in Greek mythology. Highlights include violinist Shunske Sato, flautist Elisabeth Franch, and the duo Petra Müllejans and Sabine Bauer. At Hospital de Sant Pau, enjoy a swing dance and chamber performance.
Nocturnal Bach returns later on in July with Variations for Insomnia, featuring harpsichordist Inés Moreno Uncilla and deck chair seating under the stars. The festival closes with a multidisciplinary event led by Bruno Delgado and the Bachcelona Consort.
