BaianaSystem
By Charlotte Stace

BaianaSystem returns to Barcelona with fresh music that celebrates their Afro-rock heritage. They formed in Salvador, Bahia in 2009, and quickly became famous for blending Afro-Brazilian traditions with modern sounds. Founded by Roberto Barreto, Russo Passapusso, Marcelo Seco and Filipe Cartaxo, they combine the iconic Bahian guitar with Jamaican sound system culture.
Mixing a number of genres - samba-reggae, afoxé, ijexá, dub, dancehall and electro - they're as unique as they are experimental. Albums such as BaianaSystem (2010) and Duas Cidades (2016) put them on the map, while later records including O Futuro Não Demora (2019), OxeAxeExu (2021), and the latest, O Mundo Dá Voltas (2025) have cemented them as key figures in Brazilian music.
They’ve built up a robust history of touring across multiple continents, and had the chance to collaborate with some major artists such as Manu Chao, Gilberto Gil, Tropkillaz and Vandal.
