Barcelona Jazz Festival
By Tamara Izko
You don’t have to be a jazz lover to get excited about what one of Barcelona’s best festivals has to offer. From legend Herbie Hancock, considered one of the most promising talents in jazz by Miles Davis; Cuban artist Cimafunk, who believes “in nothing but the power of the Groove”; bass musician Kyle Eastwood (who’s behind some of his father Clint Eastwood’s film soundtracks); and female flamenco fusion quartet Las Migas, the October program of the Barcelona Jazz Festival is as eclectic as it is enticing.
The list of artists you’ll want to see extends into November, with great names such as Italian pianist Ludovico Einaudi; Beninese-American musician, actress and activist Angélique Kidjo; Brazilian star Adriana Calcanhotto; and US guitarist John Scofield. If this isn’t enough, don’t miss the free Jam Sessions at Liceu and spectacles at Font Màgica as summer days give way to fall winds, approaching to the rhythm of jazz.
