Boots & Cats Showcase at Poblenou Community Radio
By Kit Macdonald
Online community radio stations are one of the most unremittingly positive music-related things to come out of the internet age: a genuinely new kind of platform for like-minded people to connect online and in-person and a brilliant way for DJs and producers in just about every coroner of the world to cut their teeth in a supportive environment. They also tend to throw excellent parties, with a family atmosphere and the chance to surreptitiously wave to your mum live on the YouTube stream if you feel so inclined.
The nonprofit Poblenou Community Radio (poblenoucommunityradio.com) have been doing it better than most since starting a couple of years ago, with a lovely environment to operate out of (Casa Rojo arts space on C/ de Llull) and a top-drawer sound system. This Saturday they hand the controls to the house and techno-focused Boots & Cats collective, who have scheduled sets from all of their resident DJs plus a few others. In chronological order, Badem, Rele, Ron's Mobile Disco, Marcos Zappia., PAZ WAZ HERE and Uncivilized will all appear.
Tickets are free, but registration for the party on Resident Advisor is mandatory. Poblenou Radio Members get free access, while non-members will be asked for a €5 fee at the door. The party runs from 6pm until midnight, and there's an afterparty (midnight to 6am) at Slow Club.
