Charlotte Perriand. Free to Rethink the World
By Charlotte Stace

French artist Charlotte Perriand (Paris, 1903-1999) spent much of her career rethinking how furniture, architecture and everyday life could work together. One of the defining figures of twentieth-century modernism, she spent a decade at Le Corbusier’s studio while developing a visual language very much her own.
This is the first exhibition in Spain dedicated to the artist, it traces her path from the formative Paris years through the furniture and interiors that helped reshape modern living. Her now-iconic reclining chaise is featured alongside wider explorations of materials, exhibition design and her belief that art, architecture and furniture should never really be separated.
Perriand met Josep Lluís Sert, architect of the Fundació Joan Miró, at Le Corbusier’s studio in 1928, beginning a lifelong friendship and creative exchange, which adds a special significance to this Barcelona connection.
