Dekker is the solo project of Brookln Dekker of the Anglo-American indie-folk duo Rue Royale, which is based in Nottingham and comprises Brookln and his wife, Ruth. Rue Royale has been going for 20 years now (just three years less than the marriage), and Dekker has become a space for Brookln to explore more personal and textured sounds in the spaces between composing and touring as part of the band.

Melodic tones, hypnotic rhythms and warm vocals are the touchstones of the Dekker sound, and since 2019 he has released four impressive albums under the name, with the latest being last year's Neither Up Nor Down. which the artist has called "a meditation on the difficult middle ground of modern life – the emotional in-between where things aren't quite breaking, but far from whole".
