DROP Open-Air Invites Hunee
By Kit Macdonald
It's hard to think of a more certain marker of the onset of summer than an outdoor set from Hunee. Born in Germany to South Korean parents, Hun Choi spent many years doubting, against all available evidence, the value of his work as a DJ and producer and trying to identify another career path for himself. A 2014 move from Los Angeles to Amsterdam seems to have been the moment he twigged that concentrating on music would bring great joy to himself and audiences worldwide, and he hasn't looked back since.
Hun's 2015 compilation Hunchin' All Night is still a touchstone work of curatorial brilliance full of warm and funky tracks that have gone on to become staples for countless DJs. His sets can touch on anything and everything, but this one is highly likely to pivot on immaculately chosen house and disco, with Hun grinning broadly behind the decks the whole time. The bill is completed with two b2b sets. The Lisbon-based Anya and Black Pomade will represent Whoopee, a rising house and disco collective run by Erika and Mauricio, and DROP residents Vince Void and Diesco will also play.
