DROP Open-Air invites Todd Terje
By Kit Macdonald
It's hard to imagine a sound that could be better suited to an open-air day party at La Terrrazza than that of Todd Terje. His sun-soaked nu-disco is a perfect, luxuriant soundtrack to a more languid, cocktail-friendly stripe of clubbing, so with the weather hotting (and drying) up just in time this will be a glorious taster of the summer to come. Quite how Terje and his Norwegian nu-disco brethren (Lindstrom, Prins Thomas et al) managed to dream up this sound from their distinctly un-tropical home base of Oslo is anyone's guess, but maybe understanding it would compromise the magic.
Support comes from the Paris-born DJ and promoter Beniso and the London-born SURUU. Beniso is one of the people behind DROP, and his sets tend to pivot on soulful house from New York, Detroit and Chicago. SURUU is the host of Rare Tea, an excellent show on the increasingly prominent Poblenou Community Radio. He has brought his warm, danceable selections to parties such as Soundit, Jazztrònica, and Brunch in the recent past.
