European balloon festival 2024

July sees the biggest gathering of hot air balloons in Spain at the European Balloon Festival. Welcoming up to 25,000 visitors each year, the event is spread across four full days and is a meeting point for competitors and anyone interested in hot air balloons.
Running since 1997, the event is held in the heart of Igualada and brings together over 50 hot air balloons from across Spain, Europe and the world. First and foremost, it’s a competition that sees the balloons fly simultaneously in scheduled activities with the aim of crossing the sky in the quickest time. Yet, it’s also a place for visitors to come and marvel at this unique sport.
Flights take place in the early morning and late afternoons when weather conditions are most favourable. Although it’s a ride out of Barcelona, it’s well worth it to see the sky fill up with colour. Don’t miss it.
