La Fira de Santa Llúcía
By Charlotte Stace
The holiday season has arrived, and with it comes La Fira de Santa Llúcia, Barcelona's historic Christmas market. Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Gothic Catedral de Barcelona, this cherished tradition is back with over 190 stalls brimming with festive crafts and decorations.
Dating back to 1786, the market remains a highlight of the city’s holiday celebrations. This year, it features four main sections. Visitors can find nativity figures, Christmas lights, ornaments, candles and home decorations in one area. Another section offers natural and artificial Christmas trees, mistletoe, eucalyptus and other seasonal greenery. Handcrafted items like jewellery, clothing and unique gifts fill the handicrafts section. Meanwhile, traditional Catalan instruments, such as tambourines and drums, celebrate local holiday culture and make the perfect kid’s stocking filler.
Open daily from 10 am to 9 pm, La Fira de Santa Llúcia is a must-visit for anyone looking to embrace the festive spirit.
