Every August, Gràcia swaps its village-like calm for a week of neighbourhood chaos. The Festa Major has been part of local life since at least 1817, and more than two centuries later it remains one of Barcelona’s most anticipated displays of community, creativity and Catalan tradition.

The headline act is still the legendary street decoration competition. Residents spend months transforming their streets and squares around elaborate themes, using handmade sets and recycled materials. And this year it’s bigger and better than ever with 23 streets and squares taking part.

You can expect all the Festa Major essentials from fire-breathing correfocs and castellers to gegants parading through the streets and havaneres, as well as open-air concerts, DJs and plenty of food and drink. Whether you’re a local or visitor, the Festa Major de Gràcia is an amazing way to soak up Barcelona’s summer spirit.
