Italo disco comes to the silver screen in Alessandro Melazzini’s The Sparkling Sound of the 80s, a deep dive into the genre’s neon-lit universe of 80s Italian disco, questionable English lyrics and even more questionable music videos.

The documentary traces the sound from the Italian coast to Munich and beyond, connecting pioneers including Pierluigi Giombini, Righeira, Linda Jo Rizzo and La Bionda with Giorgio Moroder, Chicago house and even Daft Punk. It’s a stark reminder of just how influential those electronic records became.

Before the film, Zonzo will set the mood with some of the time’s best tracks. The Glove Party founder and head of Glove Records has spent more than a decade digging through disco, Italo and house. CineClub 113 makes sure to pair the music documentary with themed DJ sets, so expect a whole night drenched in disco.
