Kathryn Mohr
By Kit Macdonald

A skilled vocalist and composer of experimental music that regularly draws comparisons with Grouper, Cocteau Twins and Liz Harris, Kathryn Mohr debuted in 2020 with the mini-album As If and followed that in 2022 with Holly, a collaboration with Madeline Johnston, aka Midwife. Both set out a sound that's intimate yet spectral, sitting somewhere between dream pop, ambient and slowcore and making heavy use of sparse guitar textures, ghostly vocal layering and a sense of emotional suspension.
This date at Casa Montjuic is part of a tour to promote her debut full-length album, Waiting Room, which was composed and recorded in solitude during a residency at a former fish factory in eastern Iceland. Her engagement with this environment is clear in the finished work, which vividly evokes sparse landscapes and industrial decay in beautifully spare, unvarnished style.
