La Luz
By Charlotte Stace

American indie-surf band La Luz bring their dreamy music to Sala Upload this week. Known for their blend of “surf noir” and neo-psychedelia, their live shows bring Soul Train-inspired dance contests and crowd surfing to the stage.
Formed in Seattle in 2012 by guitarist and vocalist Shana Cleveland, the band also consists of Marian Li Pino, Abbey Blackwell and Katie Jacobson. Together, they quickly built a following with their debut album It’s Alive (2013) and the follow up, Wierdo Shrine (2015). Their latest album, News of the Universe (2024), captures their most ambitious and atmospheric sound yet.
Shana founded the band as an all-female space within the male dominated rock scene of the early 2010s. She was determined to challenge stereotypes and champion creative freedom. And I think we can safely say that La Luz has done just that. Catch them at Upload. Tickets cost 20 Euros.
