Lawrence English is an Australian composer, producer and sound artist whose work incorporates elements of ambient, experimental composition and field recording. Based in Brisbane, he has released music since the late 1990s, both under his own name and through his influential Room40 label, which he founded in 2000. His catalogue includes collaborations with artists including Norman Westberg, Marsen Jules, Thor Harris and Lea Bertucci, plus numerous solo albums.
English’s music is often built from drones, processed acoustic sounds, electronics and environmental recordings, creating pieces that feel simultaneously immense and intimate. Albums including A Wilderness of Mirrors, Cruel Optimism and Even the Horizon Knows Its Name express his fascination with texture, resonance and the physical properties of sound. Doors are at 8.30pm and English is onstage at 9pm.
