Levitation Orchestra
By Kit Macdonald

If you had a spare week or so, you could put together a giant flow chart expressing the vast wealth of musical connections that emanate from Levitation Orchestra. An 11-piece ensemble based in London whose free and expansive approach takes in elements of free jazz, classical and experimental music, their members have connections with, to pick a tiny selection, Astrid Sonne, WOOM, Moses Boyd, Steam Down, Yussef Dayes and Arlo Parks.
The collective name Alice Coltrane, Sun Ra, Stravinsky and Ravel as their primary inspirations, which should give you an idea of the level of their ambition. The undecet (yes, we've looked up the word for an 11-piece band so you don't have to) recently released their third album, Sanctuary, and will bring works from it and their back-catalogue to a live performance that's odds-on to vibrate with power, emotion, musicianship and improvisational excellence.
