Enfield native Loraine James rose to relative prominence in 2019 with her debut album for Kode 9's Hyperdub label, For You and I. It paired intricate, glitchy rhythms with intimate reflections on identity, vulnerability and everyday life, while its follow-up, 2021's Reflection, pushed further into fractured beats and hazy atmospheres, balancing moments of startling intensity with passages of unexpected tenderness. This year, she returned with Detached From the Rest of You, a more vocal-led record featuring collaborations with Tirzah, Low’s Alan Sparhawk and Cibo Matto’s Miho Hatori.

Support at El Puma comes from Pépe, an artist from Valencia who has an intriguing and healthy disregard for the strictures of style and tempo. He moves seamlessly between bass, techno, electro, breakbeat, IDM and ambient, with honesty and emotion to the fore at all times. His latest EP is the excellent Search Engine Optimisation, a listen to which should be more than enough to get you to the venue in time for his set, which starts shortly after doors at 8pm.
