Marcos Valle arrives at Sala Apolo as one of the great architects of modern Brazilian music. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1943, he helped popularise bossa nova in the 1960s, but his music has never stayed in one place for long: across more than six decades, he has moved through samba, bossa, pop, soul, jazz, funk and beach-boogie with ease.

He began playing piano as a child, released his debut album Samba Demais in 1963, and soon followed it with Samba de Verão (1964), the classic later known internationally as “Summer Samba” or “So Nice.” Over the years, he’s collaborated with artists such as Sarah Vaughan, Leon Ware and Chicago and been sampled by Jay Z, Kanye West, Childish Gambino, Madlib and Kaytranada.

This gig is as a journey through every phase of Valle’s career, from samba and psychedelic MPB to beach boogie, with guest artist Breixo Martínez also on the bill.
