By Charlotte Stace
Matteo Mancuso, a guitarist and composer from Palermo, Sicily, has redefined the possibilities of the electric guitar. Blending jazz and rock influences, he’s renowned for his unique technique, which adapts a quasi-flamenco/classical right-hand approach to deliver intricate solos - all without a pick.
Mancuso began playing guitar at age 10 under the guidance of his father, Vincenzo, a professional guitarist and producer. By 11, he was already captivating live audiences. In 2017, his performance at the Umbria Jazz Festival earned him a prestigious scholarship to Berklee College of Music. Since then, he’s graced the stages of major festivals worldwide, including the NAMM Show and the Eddie Lang Jazz Festival.
In 2023, Mancuso released his debut album, The Journey, solidifying his place as a leading voice in contemporary guitar music. Legends like Steve Vai, Al Di Meola and Joe Bonamassa have sung his praises, with Vai declaring him "the future" of electric guitar. Catch him live - you’ll be utterly mesmerized.
