Milkweed's "slacker-trad" music, as they call it, is built around banjo, dissonant guitar, warped tape textures and voices that seem to emerge from a half-remembered ballad. Their approach draws on sources including folklore journals, Welsh mythology, accounts of Bronze Age remains and Thomas Kinsella’s translation of the Irish epic Táin Bó Cúailnge, and they cut up and reshape these texts into fragmentary pieces of experimental folk.

Releases including 2023's The Mound People, 2024's Folklore 1979 and last year's Remscéla have established a sound that sits somewhere between field recordings, primitive folk and lo-fi psychedelia, and which blurs the boundaries between memory, landscape and fiction. Auri Fulgenci plays a specially curated warm-up DJ set from 8.30pm, and Milkweed are on at 9.30pm.
