Oval: Swordes
By Kit Macdonald

"Swordes makes human music for humans. Swordes lives in NYC. Swordes is nice." Economical with words but expansive with sounds, Swordes emerged as an artist when the Covid lockdowns finally eased in 2021, playing her first few shows at warehouse raves and parties in Brooklyn. Since then she has honed and expanded a sound that's part trance-pop, part experimental club music and part confessional bedroom electronic, while always keeping melody and joy to the fore.
Originally from Hawaii but now firmly based in New York, she writes, produces and mixes her own work, building tracks around hardware synths, drum machines and an emotive vocal style that swings between airy sweetness and operatic intensity. Get along and see why she has become a fixture on NYC’s experimental electronic underground scene while increasingly appearing on international festival and club lineups.
