Quiet Light
By Kit Macdonald
Quiet Light, aka the Texas-born Riya Mahesh, defines her songs as "dream sequences" – a hazy, shape-shifting sound that combines delicate melodies, fragmented samples, glitchy electronics and diaristic vocals. Her music sits somewhere between bedroom pop and more adventurous and polished electronic production, and she balances ethereal atmospheres with what are sometimes surprisingly immediate pop melodies and flourishes.
This show is part of a tour to promote Quiet Light's debut on the True Panther label, Blue Angel Sparkling Silver 2. It expands her established sonic universe with sharper pop hooks and more elaborate production, and tracks such as Berlin and Star100 in particular reveal an artist unafraid to move between emotional candour and playful experimentation.
