Cameroonian bassist and singer Richard Bona is an internationally acclaimed musician celebrated for his rich fusion of African rhythms, jazz, bossa nova, funk and pop. A master of both voice and bass, he’s performed with legendary artists like Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny and Quincy Jones.

Bona’s musical journey began in the village of Minta, Cameroon, where he was surrounded by music from an early age. He taught himself to play homemade instruments before moving to France and later the US to pursue a professional career. Inspired by jazz icons like Jaco Pastorius, he developed a style that honours his African roots while embracing global influences.

With acclaimed albums like Scenes from My Life (1999), Tiki (2001), and The Ten Shades of Blues (2009), he showcases his ability to transcend genres. Whether singing in Douala, French or English, Bona’s music is a testament to cultural fusion, earning him an international following and multiple Grammy nominations.
