Born in Pennsylvania in 1977 and now based in Brooklyn, Steve Gunn has been a member of Kurt Vile's backing band, part of the improvisational acoustic trio GHQ and a live collaborator with Angel Olson. He has been writing sweeping, guitar-led Americana songs in his solo guise since 2007, and his work tends to emerge at the crossroads of folk, psych and exploratory guitar music.

Early records leaned into instrumental drift and collaboration, but albums such as Time Off and Eyes on the Lines marked a shift toward songcraft – warm, reflective pieces that feel intimate and open-ended. His music draws on American primitive guitar, blues and modal improvisation, but resists nostalgia, instead tracing the rhythms of travel, city life and memory.
